Built sometime in the early 1800s, the Farmhouse offers an attractive combination of the traditional and the modern. Situated on the south-west corner of the Farm Courtyard and enjoying views over the lawns and lake, the Farmhouse consists of a large living/dining room, modern compact kitchen, bathroom, separate WC, a double bedroom, a twin room and a small third bedroom with a bunk-bed. It is tastefully decorated and traditionally furnished in French style with touches ‘à l’Anglais’.
The Farmhouse forms the south-west corner of the cobbled farmyard, around which are arranged stables, workshops, barns, henhouse and outbuildings which occupy three of the four sides. The forth has a low wall and looks out onto the grounds of the Château.
Like many buildings in the area, the Farmhouse is essentially Flemish in design and is a striking building in its own right. The south facing wall is covered by very old climbing roses which reach the full height of the building. They are set at two metre intervals (about twelve in all) and, having been pruned and fed properly for the first time in many years, we have been rewarded by a wonderful show of colour and scent. They face what was the kitchen garden (which we hope at some point to restore) and the manège. On the eastern end of the ‘rose wall’ are three lovely – but currently decrepit – old glasshouses, which are also the subject of (eventual) restoration plans.
